The Hunky Action Hangover

Eh, it does have a nice ring to it but the only reason for this one time name change is the fact that the only two movies worth a damn on cable television today come in the form of hunky action stars in their respective hunky action roles. Hunky being subjective, I would assume, specifically with the first film on todays hangover, which comes to us in the form of the Sly Stallone actioner, Cliffhanger, playing on AMC at 10:00. I have never had the chance to catch up with Cliffhanger and for no other reason than I just haven't. I have, however, seen Oscar. In the theaters. I am slightly ashamed of all that I have confessed to today. Please, forgive me.

One film that I have seen, and many time, is our next and finale movie of this wicked short hangover, and that would be Road House, showing at 3:00 on VH1. Now, when you think action hunks, it get no hunkier - and more homoerotic - than one Pat Swayze in his ballet inspired martial arts prime. Mix that in with a little fatherly figure love from Sam Elliott, a monster truck, a handful of great barroom brawls, a hot blonde doctor and a whole lot of olive oil, and you have yourself the perfect movie to help with that vicious hangover.

That is all for today…until next time, my dear friend. Until next time.

  1. "I used to fuck guys like you in prison."

I have ROADHOUSE on DVD and I watched in three times in a row a couple of months ago. I couldn't get enough of shirtless Swayze, what can I say?

  2. Oh, come now, over-acting aside, OSCAR isn't that bad. :) But like you, I have always skipped CLIFFHANGER, despite my affection for the work of Stallone.

  3. I love Oscar. Especially Tim Curry as the speech coach. It's nowhere near the bad of Stop! Or My Mom will Shoot!

  4. Cliffhanger is kind of hot. I love when it becomes operatic and over the top. Leon! What a name. And John Lithgow is ADORABLE.

  5. Aaron: Wow, three time in a row?! I guess I don't lame you...Road House is one of those movies I have watched an inordinate amount of time, and while I would like to say it's because of the cool action and fights, it's probably due to the shirtless Swayze!

Astro: I haven't seen it since the theaters, so it's been quite some time since I've seen it. The one thing I can remember is Sly's incredible acting chops in the film!

Bugg: Ha, I have seen Stop more than too many times! It is pretty awful, but oh so great. I do love me some Tim Curry, though...I don't even remember him being in Oscar.

Myra: The operatic and intensely epic trailer alone is enough to push me to see it. I do have the slight hope that there is a training montage where Sly rocks a great beard and outruns Russians in the snow, but I think that can only happen in snow set Rocky movies!
