Polishing a Turd

As you may have already noticed, I changed the look of the blog and quite drastically I must say. I have been wanting to do something different for a long time now (the brown blog never really worked, now did it?), so I took advantage of the new blogger design stuff to do so. I would love to hear feedback, if it looks fucking stupid, awesome, or is it difficult to read…blah, blah. I did try and go with a background as epic and powerful as the one who carries the beard, so I think I made a solid choice. BUT, if it is too distracting, please, let me know.

  1. I actually like the old look better. I'm not a fan of the huge font on this layout. However, the lighting does match with your banner... the glowing eyes on Chuck Norris makes him look like a character from Mortal Kombat, so I guess the lightning would be appropriate. But yeah that's just my opinion... as long as you like how it looks, who gives a fuck?

  2. I actually didn't mind the old layout of the blog. The brown reminded me of Chuck Norris's beard. All safe and warm, the only place a child could hide from the terrors of the real world.

  3. I understand that the last post goes against everything your blogs title stands for. But it's kind of true.

  4. Matt, I'm all for experimenting but I think the old look was better. Like ratof13 says, there was a warm, hominess to the original look. But I'll get used to the upgrade if you stick with it!

  5. I dig it. But that's because I'm getting to be an old bastard and my eye sight isn't what it used to be. I'm experimenting on my blog as well.

  6. I like the big font and the color scheme, but the background might be a lil too epic for me since it's distracting to the eye. Then again, I'm pretty biased towards bare-bones background.

  7. Thanks for the feedback and honesty everyone! I'm gonna be messing around with it for a little while, and even though I do love the background, it's a little distracting.

  8. I too like the old layout. But that's just my opinion.

  9. When I saw you changed the look, I ran over here to make sure that the logo was the same. I feel better now.

    But overall, I dig it.

  10. *gasps* Matt I really love what you've done with the place! Had no idea you had such a penchant for interior design! Hope you're enjoying your weekend, dude. :o)

  11. I just changed it again, so I'm not sure which one you guys all saw, if it's the crazy lightning background, or the new one. The one I have now may be the final one unless everyone hates its guts...it has enough poopie like the old one, but is only a little poopie looking, if that makes sense. Thanks for all the feedback guys!

  13. Yes, the faux parchment look has a certain je ne sais quois; it has a delicate bouquet, and I'm amused by its presumption. Of course, it's not purple ectoplasm, but we can't all have that now, can we? :-)

Looks classy, Matt - nice job!

  14. This is much better than the gray background, Matt. This background goes better with the banner too. ;)

  15. I sort of like this- i love the opacity thing going on in the main body.

from an aesthetic point of view I would recommend a change of font - I think it is times roman? that never a pretty font. also the site heading -maybe one that spans both columns and centres would seem a little less awkward. that aside I really like what is going on this this,

  17. The font is good for old people like me

  18. Liking the big font for easier reading. Digging the marbly brown background as well. The lightening blue was a tad futuristic for a cat as old skool as you.

  19. The new style is much better - nice work!

  20. Ha, much better than the feedback for the crazy, I'm still 12, lightning background! Thanks everyone for the feedback and I'm pretty happy with it, and if any changes are made, the will be minor for now.

I did center the banner and I agree that New Times is the ugliest font, but there aren't many to choose from, unfortunately. So I went with one that was easiest to read.

  24. Wow its like I'm reading the Declaration of Independence. I'm not picky, but I did like the old look better but go with what you feel is best.

  25. hi,

you are right Matt- I just took a look at the list of standard fonts as inspiration- and am surprised how few there are. Besides, times is a font that may well be in for a revival since recent times there has been a major shift to arial and that web 2.0 look- a bandwagon I will admit I too jumped on in recent years in my design work.

  26. No 'F--- yo couch!''s from me.

    Looks pretty good.

I always thought the old motif was supposed to be some sort contrasting crack on the actually blog content and banner.

  27. Ha, that is one of the single funniest moments in that sketch from Chappelle!

Originally, my banner was a photo of Daigoro (the baby from Lone Wolf and Cub) with a sword in his face. It actually looked like it all fit pretty well and had a very Asian look I guess. I always hated the old look of the blog and I'm really surprised others liked it...I blame that on them being blinded by my amazing writing skills, witty humor, and gorgeous looks! Or not.

  28. Oh goodness....you should see how many times the look of my blog bigdaddyhorrorreviews.com has changed in the past 3 months since I have started it! About the only thing that has stayed the same is the black background and that all the films I have reviewed are listed to the side on the main page. Just trying to figure out what works best and to not have the main page so cluttered up.

  29. Yeah, it takes a little work to get it to look okay enough where you are happy with it and most of your readers are cool with it. At least the new tools for blogger make it much easier to do so.
