CNAMB Presents: Monster of the Week!

Am I the meanest?

Sho’Nuff!

Am I the prettiest?

Sho’Nuff!

Am I the baddest mo-fo, low-down, around this town?

Sho’Nuff!

Well, who am I?

Sho’Nuff!

Who am I?!

Sho’Nuff!

And who is the Monster of the Week?

Sho’Nuff!!

The Shogun of Harlem!

sho 'nuff

In the end, Sho ‘Nuff might not be “the master,” per say, but he is the Shogun of Harlem and one of the meanest mofo’s put to screen. Played by the late Julius Carry, Sho ‘Nuff is the antagonist to "Bruce" Leroy Green (played by Taimak) in Berry Gordy's 1985 Blaxploitation/Martial Arts/Comedy/Musical hybrid, The Last Dragon. Meaner than diarrhea, Sho ‘Nuff made it a habit to prove he was the man by picking on the weak and whopping copious amounts of ass on a daily basis. Living the life of a Harlem Shogun isn’t easy, but Sho ‘Nuff did it will style and presence.

One of cinema’s most entertaining villains, with his wild style hair, football pad infused Shogun Samurai outfits, and a voice that would command the attention of James Earl Jones, Sho ‘Nuff is quite the intimidating presence. His Kung Fu skills might have been somewhat lacking, but with an ego as big as Sho ‘Nuff’s…there are very few people that can take him down. Unless they possess the glow, that is.

So, who’s the master?!

Sho ‘Nuff!

Now, kiss my Converse!

  1. This one rules. My favorite part of THE LAST DRAGON is the bit where the three hip-hop Asian dudes are ripping on Taimak. Cracks my shit up. What a fun movie. Sho 'Nuff!

  2. It is a wicked fun movie and one of my childhood favorites. That scene with the three Asian guys is so funny, especially when they start making fun of him for acting and dressing Asian!

  3. One of my all time favorites. I've seen it so many times that I've lost track. The ending battle is still one my favorite moments in cinematic history. I get chills when the theme song kicks in, after Leroy knocks Sho'nuff through a door, and thinks he has him knocked out, but when he double checks to make sure Sho is still there, he's gone (a good ol' horror movie cliche). Classic.

  4. How great would a sequel have been?! "Sho 'Nuff's Revenge!" It was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid and I so wanted to be like Leroy wicked bad! I actually completely forgot about the movie until a few years ago when I ran into it on some pay channel - couldn't believe I forgot about it as the memories came flooding right back. Eddie Arcadia would have made for a solid Monster of the Week too. Awesome movie, fo sho.

  5. I finally saw this film a few years ago and got the angle in Busta Rhymes' "Dangerous" video!

What an oversized bully this dude was! And nothing beats the glow!

  6. I was actually pretty scared of him when I was little...especially the part when he puts Leroy's little brother in the trash!

I think there were rumors going around at one point that Busta was going to play Sho 'Nuff in the remake, but I could be wrong. Though, Sam Jackson should do an adequate job I'm sure.

  8. his "catches bullets in his teeth" speech to young Leroy is probably one of the funniest parts in pretty silly movie. the kid breakdancing out of the ropes to a Debarge song is a close second.

  9. Carl: This is one of those movies that people would just discover on cable when they were kids. So it's either something that someone knows and loves, or they never even heard of it!

WIEC?: Ha ha...love that part with the rope escape! That is non-other than Ernie Reyes Jr. who plays that kid too!

  11. Ha ha...thanks, Chris! It's hard not to love The Last Dragon if you had seen it when you were a kid...it's like the cult version of The Karate Kid!
